Holding our breath as the Kickstarter campaign started… and right away we could tell we had a hit on our hands when folks clamored to opt for a Todd Lockwood Dragon Skin Art Book & Slip Case.

The Thrill of Victory! (after the agony)

Celtic Faeries, an art book masterpiece by Jean-Baptiste Monge, was slated to be produced by another (commodity) printer. However, such an ambitious art book with technically-challenging creative options proved to be too much for them. Why so challenging?
10 SPECIAL FEATURES, including gilded edges, foil stamped inside pages, spot gloss varnishes throughout, high end matte art paper, slip case & foil stamp, embossed/foiled jackets, ribbon marker, etc., etc.

THE DISASTER…
Books were made. Delivered. And totally screwed up. The first printer could not deliver quality for all of those special features (they tried twice).

What now? After being called on to reprint the book, onthemark saved the day and handled their project’s demanding features, which were very hard to pull off in one art book. Yes, there were twists and turns along the way, requiring creative manufacturing solutions (inside page foil stamps can’t be done without screwing up the other pages [but we figured it out]).

Final result: Art Book printed. Kickstarter supporters delighted.

Weeks away from the Kickstarter campaign, the client was grappling with whether to invest more in a special edition, or play it safe, only offering a less expensive regular edition. After all, who wants pay double for cover decoration and additional slip case, when you can enjoy the same, less expensive option with the exact same inside content?
Choosing to offer the special edition, we were all excited… and waited… as the campaign started…

What was the driving force behind the success?
